Italian students stormed the Leaning Tower of Pisa and Rome’s Colosseum on Thursday as a demonstration of protest against spending cuts for Italy’s universities.
A crowd of 2,000 students marched in Italian cities and occupied the Pisa Tower and the Colosseum to protest university reforms and proposed education cuts planned by the Silvio Berluscino’s struggling government.
Students made their way to the entrance turnstiles at the Colosseum, marching around it and were carrying banners that said, “No profits off our future”. They formed a human chain at the Pisa tower, one of the most visited tourist attractions.
Apart from occupying the Italian icons, students previously chanted anti-government slogans outside parliament building, waving smoke banners and in few incidents disrupted public transportation and clashed with police.
