interesting so few comments on this post so far (I confess I am a frequent reader here); something strange is afoot with the economy, a trickle down effect: I just traded my high interest econo car for a zero interest deal on a huge 4x4 truck, and my youngest son bought a palatial home for below assessed value, due to the "financial/mortgage crisis".
Being the vulgar marxist I am, I feel little responsibility for the environment, since the bosses control the means of production anyway and I deserve a cool truck- but my Evangelical Bush loving neighbor grumbled at my use of "flex-fuel" (corn based ethanol "gas") because it uses the world food supply for my gas tank-- this from a guy who went to Iraq twice as an enthusiastic hired killer for Bushco! What are the preachers telling these people?
also, is it easier to discuss "theory" than to face the "reality" of an implosion of the American economy? Why the deafening silence? Because we "know" , but discussion is taboo, too "real"?

Well, you mean well, but I love this, because whatever urgency in the reality of the economy, I think the answer to your question is not that anybody is terrified of this taboo and real subject, since it's anything but non-discussed in many places (literally everywhere), but it is rather a throw of the dice whether people want to do comments in The Silly Season, as well as they are mostly watching the Olympics.

My only thing to add to the good fortune of getting a house on the cheap is that I got an enormous roast beef hero in Flatbush at my transfer point to Ft. Tilden Beach for $3, which is LESS than it was a year ago. PLUS--in June, I got a skirt steak in Corona, Queens, for the same price I got it in 2001. Neither of these could I believe. But I'd much rather talk about the beach than either theory or the economy, because it has so much more to offer. No offense, but nobody's much commented here at all this weekend, and Jodi hasn't a new post for 3 days, plus nobody commented on 'FBI to Get Freer Rein...' etc.

I say! Where's the outrage?????
