I've been rather down since Paul is leaving for South America early Sunday morning. I'll visit him in Peru in March, but it's still a long time to be apart.
The professor who is traveling with him on the abroad program just called. He misread the plane tickets. They are supposed to leave tomorrow at 6:30 am.
I don't know what's going to happen--Paul isn't close to ready. He has to get more shots. And then there are the arrangements with his house.
Update: the travel agent was pretty negative when Paul called her this morning (Friday, Jan. 5, several hours after he was to have left). But, after some venting, she arranged a flight for Sunday morning. This flight is much better than the other one--it doesn't leave so early and it involves fewer changes. At this point, the charge for the flight change has been passed on to the college. We'll see if they pass it back.
What's still pretty weird is how both Paul and his colleague (an art professor; I'll call him "M") misread their tickets and had the wrong travel date in their heads. M said: "my god, I can barely take care of myself, who knows what I'll do with the 24 students." I'm thinking, right--in the Galapagos, on Manchu Pichu, in a rainforest...this could get interesting."
take a look at Zizek's editorial in today's NYTimes.com. It'll cheer you up.
