Over at Long Sunday I engage Bruce Ackerman's and Todd Gitlin's "liberal manifesto": Long Sunday: The Liberal Manifesto. They write:
Clearly this is a moment for liberals to define ourselves. The important truth is that most liberals, including the undersigned, have stayed our course throughout these grim five years. We have consistently and publicly repudiated the ruinous policies of the Bush administration, and our diagnosis, alas, has been vindicated by events. The Bush debacle is a direct consequence of its repudiation of liberal principles. And if the country is to recover, we should begin by restating these principles.
I disagree with most of the manifesto.
I disagree with much of what they have to say.
Jodi, I think you hit the problem dead center. Whether liberal or conservative, they are wings to the same plane. Headed in the same direction, using the same fuel, and have no idea of the deadly storm ahead of them. It is the blindness of their own self-interest that runs them off course. Worse of all, they do not care that the plane is full of people that they are endangering.
