Countering the conservative attack on the academy

Now this is what I call a response. Pharyngula points out that Jim Black, the guy interviewed by Pat Robertson, is lying. Academe and the Left have the etiquette of the salon down cold, and can be quite good at substantive discussion, and are even masters of the sly dig and the subtle, passive-aggressive rebuke. But man, you know, most of us are total wimps at the rhetoric of the knock-down drag-out brawl, and if you haven’t noticed, that’s what the Right is ready to do. Robertson and Black weren’t inviting a quiet round-table discussion, they were hauling out the shivs and motorcycle chains. We have to wake up and start responding appropriately!
