The only thing I would add is that if you have the means you can take the time to learn about preventative health, you can afford to buy groceries from Whole Foods, you have a membership to an expensive gym, and you can experiment with holistic medicines and providers not covered by insurance. Even in the neoliberalization of health care, those with means have the economic advantages that they have in other aspects of our shattered existence.

The autonomy of the one percent is really their ability to afford to buy the time and expertise of others.

wish i knew where you were going with this...or where it came from...we all know the 1% gets the best of whatever life has to offer...

but life catches up with everyone, & no one escapes alive & intact...even Reagan had alzheimers for several years before he died...

It's coming out of experience (family member) and out of frustration with the modes of response available under communicative capitalism, particularly inequality and the ideology of awareness and prevention. And, yes, everybody dies and many of us will become disabled first.

stroke is endemic in my family; three grandparents, my great grandfather, & several uncles all died from massive strokes, so i expect it will be what takes me, too...

my mother is the only stroke survivor i've known; she lost the ability to write & some motor skills, although her speech & reading were mostly unaffected...after about a year some of her writing ability came back, and she learned to walk with a walker...if your loved one is not too bad off, speech therapy might help...

Jodi Dean

therapy will start soon--it just happened on Friday, so it's still not clear how bad it will be, although it looks like the speech and language functions were wiped out.
