I think that one answer Zizek gives to this question is act. Desire is law as drive is to the act. As real, the act is the founding moment of the symbolic, the vanishing mediator between what is not yet and what is already.
But I am troubled and confused by the equation of drive and act. It doesn't make sense to me. The idea seems to be that "the Real is not a hard external kernel which resists symbolization, but the product of a deadlock in the process of symbolization" (110). The drives are another way of designating this deadlock. And so is objet a. And so is subject of lack. And so is the act constitutive of the subject, the object in it more than itself.
The failure and the space of symbolization are the same; hence drives are both failure and opportunity, something old and new. Being stuck is a modality of beginning again. Where God closes a door He opens a window. Getting fired is a chance to realize one's dreams.
Every crisis is an opportunity. Just look at it differently.
No wonder I'm depressed.
Hope it makes you feel better:
People are afraid of themselves, of their own reality; their feelings most of all. People talk about how great love is, but that’s bullshit. Love hurts. Feelings are disturbing. People are taught that pain is evil and dangerous. How can they deal with love if they’re afraid to feel? Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they’re wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain. It’s all in how you carry it. That’s what matters. Pain is a feeling. Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you’re letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel your pain.

Desire is to law as drive is to speeding.

Desire is to law as drive is to being (subject).
Love the comment mariana ;-)
As long as you enjoy speeding for its own sake then it's drive (imagine a peregrine falcon skydiving for the simple pleasure of it). If you are speeding to somehow invoke the law (by being stopped by a cop or for the enjoyment of telling the story of your speeding) then it is desire.
Although more fleeting, the pleasure derived from the drives is more enjoyable (and more in service to the special particularities of the subject) than that of desire which is in the service of bridging separation.
