Zizek was the speaker for the foundations of political theory plenary session. I was a little nervous before hand, worrying about planes, hotels, logistics. He arrived smoothly, said his flight went well. The talk was wonderful. A large number of people in the room hadn't heard him before. They received him quite enthusiastically (to be sure, there had been some grousing on a political theory gossip blog, snipes at me for the "narrowness" of the panels I accepted for the meeting, the inappropriateness of Zizek as a speaker, and a bizarre conspiracy theory linking Zizek and debates about APSA meeting sites.) The talk was about civility and its obscene underside. He had an illustration/digression on Kung-Fu panda that was very entertaining. And he reiterated his endorsement of Obama.
