I've been gone but now I'm back. I'm somewhat undermediated, haven't been making the rounds of the blogosphere or much else, but a few predictions before I get tomorrow's NYT and see what's what.
Overall, I'm optimistic for the next year (Paul isn't. He thinks we'll slide further into fascism).
The Democrats will filibuster Alito. Frist will go for the nuclear option. Alito will be confirmed. But voters will be outraged and both the House and the Senate will go Democratic. Frist and Rove will be indicted. Delay will be convicted. The military will revolt against the corrupt White House. Increased outrage on the ground will push the Democrats to the center, with left of center views becoming more prominent in the media.
Unfortunately, Iraq will continue to be a mess. Yet, with the entire Bush administration on trial for war crimes, an international commission will work for peace and a more sustainable approach to energy. All the big energy companies will be taken over and their CEOs tried for crimes against humanity. During all these trials, a new movement for cooperation, equality, and sustainability will acquire global momentum, shaping the next half of the decade.
