We can think of it as this, the collection of dark acts we know took place, and the others we can't prove but know also; and we can make catalogs of them, and lay the blame for them and prosecute some of them as crimes - but at the heart of that is the wish of its being somehow done, even as it continues, that there was just that, they did those things and those other things. It's complete somehow.
But it's not, it's going somewhere else, or trying to.
It's intentional, planned more than one or two moves in advance and there's a goal.
Torture in order to...
Invasion in order to...
Malign neglect in order to...
Looking ahead, past Iran and Syria - to what?
Controlling the world's oil and then...being the last ones at the party? Is that it? Being the core of the species when the big cutback happens? Is that what salvation really means?
That's probably closer to it.
One of the neo-cons said that famous bit about "you guys are talking about reality, but we're creating it", something along those lines.
There's the real enemy, speaking through its possessions.
After all the machinations and intrigue, what comes out of that, after the violence.
All this mayhem and bloody sludge is just birth pangs for that new creature.
That's what's hiding behind the curtain - not some kindly befuddled old man - a vicious and inhuman presence to which we mean less than nothing.
The CIA, Bush, the zealots and the homicidal patriots, they're secondary, prelude, pawns and cannon fodder.
The horror is hypnotic, and it's easy to trance out to; the illusion that what's known is all there is to worry about is seductive.
Yes, say no. No. No, with my life, screaming.
Really really loudly, NO, to everything that's put this shadow over the world.
